Group Saloum has been a force in Boston’s music scene since 2004. Led by world-renowned percussionist, vocalist and MIT instructor Lamine Touré, the band plays a distinctive style of Afro-pop rooted in traditional sabar drumming and modern dance rhythms of Senegal—all powered by Touré’s masterful playing and expressive vocals.
Described by The Boston Phoenix as delivering “a hard-hitting dance mix that spans the percussive fury of Senegalese [Afro-pop] and the joyful uplift of Congolese soukous,” Group Saloum brings together some of New England’s most versatile musicians for live shows that are driving, joyful and impossible to sit still through.
Their track “Stand Up” was featured on the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique compilation, placing them alongside top global Afro-pop artists.
