Led by Cuban-born pianist, composer and vocalist Aníbal Cruz of Clave & Blues Productions, The Blue Island Project delivers a mix of originals and jazz standards through the lens of salsa, rumba and other Afro-Caribbean styles.
Born in Camagüey, Cuba, Mr. Cruz began studying classical piano at age 8 and graduated from the José White Conservatory and Havana’s University of the Arts (ISA), where he also began composing. At 24, he received a scholarship to attend Berklee and has been based in Boston ever since.
In 2023, he was featured live on WGBH’s Boston Public Radio as part of Latinx Heritage Month.
