Costa Rica–born singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Manolo Mairena is a fixture on New England’s Latin music scene. Best known as the charismatic leader of La Pura Vida, a high-powered salsa and Afro-Caribbean ensemble, Mairena appears at Lou’s in an intimate but energetic trio setting.
Past collaborators include Grammy winners Chucho Valdés, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Eguie Castrillo. He also played on Gonzalo Grau’s Frutero Moderno, nominated for Best Tropical Latin Album at the 2009 Grammys. Mairena’s most recent release is Esto es lo que Hay (2023).
